KUOW (Seattle NPR affiliate) Public Health Reporter EilĂs O'Neill was scanning bills from the 2023 Legislative Session looking for anything aiming to help with the on-going opioid epidemic. She came upon Senate Bill 5411: Addressing a shortage of primary care services by increasing the scope of practice of naturopathic physicians and was intrigued. She reached out to WANP's Executive Director, Angela Ross, ND, to learn more about our on-going legislative effort and featured parts of the interview in two brief on-air news clips - one focused on how naturopathic physicians can help with opioid use disorder and one focused on our role in providing care in rural communities - and in a more in-depth article posted at kuow.org.
We are deeply appreciative of this media coverage of our current bill, which would finally allow naturopathic physicians in Washington to practice to a fuller extent of our education and training and better enable us to meet the primary care needs of our patients when they need us most.
