In Memoriam: Mark Dee Groven, ND

Mark Dee Groven, ND

October 23, 1954 – May, 23, 2017

I’m very sad to share with you the news that Dr. Mark Groven passed away this past Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Bellevue, Washington.

In the fall of 2014, Mark was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare form of cancer. He was given six months to live initially and worked very hard with his team of specialists to find a cure for this uncommon and very challenging disease. His last months were spent at an adult family home in Bellevue and his family is grateful for the amazing care he received there.

Born in North Dakota and raised in Yakima, Mark spent his adult life in the Kirkland area of Washington where he raised four children and taught at Bastyr University – where he was chair of the Physical Medicine Department for a number of years. He finished his career at Graham Rehabilitation and Wellness in Seattle and continued to see patients until the summer of 2016.
One of six children, Mark is survived by his siblings who all live in Oregon and California, by his parents who also live in Oregon and by his own four children: Molly (25), Anna (23), Rachel (20) and Daniel (18).
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, June 2, 2017 at theHoly Family Catholic Church in Kirkland, Washington and all are welcome to attend.

Many of us knew Mark as a colleague, a friend or a teacher – and quite a few knew him as all of these. As a longstanding member of the WANP and our naturopathic professional community, I’m sure I speak for many in sending our deepest condolences to his family.
