In Loving Memory: Dr Joy T. Yu of Issaquah, Wash.
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dr. Joy T. Yu, colleague, mentor, friend, sister, and gifted doctor, passed away April 13, 2013 on Red Mountain in North Bend after an avalanche struck her hiking path.
Dr. Yu was a loving sister to Mi, Jin, Ok and T.H. and an inspiring mentor to friends and colleagues through her deep commitment to natural medicine.
Joy graduated with honors from University of Maryland, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She furthered her education in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington.
Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church stated, ““Dr. Joy T. Yu was a 2002 graduate of the Bastyr University School of Naturopathic Medicine. She is remembered by her professors as a vibrant, passionate lover of nature, deeply committed to transforming the health of the human family. She is deeply missed.”
Joy embraced life with compassion, wisdom and curiosity. As a life-long student of humanity, Joy regarded each person with love and grace, seeking to bring a holistic view of medicine for her patients’ health, longevity and quality of life. Joy was an avid hiker and nature enthusiast. One could often find her wild-crafting in the mountains along I-90 with her companion, Blue, a rescued Border Collie.
The following excerpt was written by Joy in her blog. They are words she passionately lived by:
“May I be at peace, May my heart remain open, May I be aware of my true nature, May I be healed, May I be a source of healing to others, May I dwell in the breadth of God.”
